The Utah Wild hosted the San Diego Super Bloom for their second game of the season at Judge Memorial High School last Saturday, April 8. This game was another loss for Utah, who fell to San Diego 17-8.

San Diego was established in 2020 and has been a consistently good team nearly every year since. They were a semifinalist in last year's playoffs and also have the least turnover of any team in the WUL, meaning this is a team full of veterans who know how to play in the WUL.

The Wild did put up a fair fight against the Super Bloom, they had a high completion rate and red zone efficiency but fell short elsewhere, including capitalizing on break opportunities.

The match started with some lengthy back-and-forth before theWild found their stride with a clean hold and a pass from Kat Songer to Lily Terpstra, earning them the first point of the game.

The bulk of the Wild’s scoring came from the first two quarters with five goals in the first, and two in the second. Followed by a scoreless third for Utah and a single goal in the fourth quarter to finish the game.

However, the Wiid took full advantage of a beautiful break opportunity created by Justine Cherwink that resulted in a goal by Eva Hayes in the first. Hayes also scored on the Wild’s only other break in the game, just minutes later in the first.

Another player of note in this game was Abbie Davis, who led the team on defense, with three blocks.

The entire game can be watched on the WUL’s Youtube channel for any fans that may have missed it.

This is the Wild’s only matchup with the Super Bloom in the regular season.

Utah will hit the road next Saturday where they will take on the Seattle Tempest on April 12.
